Who Votes Matters!
„Who Votes Matters!” was a CAESAR civic mobilization campaign for the Presidential elections of 2014. The campaign took place between September 15 and November 20, 2014, online and offline. It reached over 1 million people and had the Romanian diaspora as its core target group. After November 2, when thousands of Romanian citizens abroad were unable to exercise their constitutional right to vote as a result of poor organization and insufficient voting sections, the CAESAR Foundation launched the “Respect our right to vote!” petition. This was signed by over 4,500 Romanian citizens around the world in less than 48 hours, and was formally considered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2014, 377,651 votes were cast in the diaspora in the Presidential runoff – a 255% increase compared to the number of the votes cast in the 2009 presidential runoff.
